Rebecca Copley - Soprano
Hailed by critics as one of America's most gifted
vocalists, Rebecca Copley has performed with leading opera
companies and orchestras worldwide. Her critically acclaimed
professional debut was as Desdemona opposite James McCracken in
Otello at the New Jersey State Opera followed by performances of
Verdi's Requiem with the Paris Opera. Since then, she has
triumphed in opera and symphonic works throughout the United
States, South America, Europe, South Africa and the Far East.
Ms Copley's vocal gifts and dynamic stage presence translate to the vocal studio as well. Fort Lewis College, Durango (CO), made great use of her vast experience and eagerness to teach last season, where she was Visiting Instructor in Music.
Having finished the season with performances of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony with the Colorado Springs Philharmonic honoring Maestro Lawrence Leighton Smith, the University of Oklahoma School of Music welcomes her in the Fall of 2011.
2008/2009 brought Ms. Copley to Boulder, CO for highly acclaimed performances of Mahler's 8th Symphony - Symphony of a Thousand - with Colorado MahlerFest, Robert Olson, conductor. In the previous season Rebecca joined the Colorado Springs Philharmonic, Lawrence Leighton Smith, conductor, in performances of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. Ms Copley continued her passion for symphonic literature, having just returned from New York's Avery Fisher Hall/Lincoln Center where she sang Mozart's Requiem and Regina Coeli, K 127 with Martin Josman and the National Chorale.
A true leading lady of the operatic stage, Rebecca Copley has triumphed as Puccini's Turandot in Turandot (Metropolitan Opera, New York City Opera, Opera Carolina, Minnesota, Baltimore, Ft Worth, Knoxville), Verdi's Abigaille in Nabucco (Metropolitan Opera, South Africa, Opera Carolina), Leonore in Il Trovatore (Deutsche Oper Berlin, Metropolitan Opera, Palm Beach), Bellini's Norma in Norma (Baltimore, New Jersey, Palm Beach, Connecticut), Verdi's Aida in Aida (Arizona, Connecticut, Louisiana, Knoxville), Verdi's Lady Macbeth in Macbeth (Opera Pacific), Gerhilde in Wagner's Die Walkure with the Metropolitan Opera and James Levine/Valery Gergiev, Amelia in Verdi's Un Ballo in Maschera (Ms Copley's debut with the Metropolitan Opera), Donna Anna in Mozart's Don Giovanni (Metropolitan Opera, Ft Worth, New Orleans), Desdemona in Verdi's Otello (operatic debut with James McCracken and New Jersey State Opera, New Orleans), Tatiana in Tchaikowsky's Eugene Onegin (Palm Beach).
Highlights of Ms Copley's concert appearances include Beethoven's Ninth Symphony with Memphis, New Haven, Dallas Symphony Orchestras as well as a tour of the same work in Japan, performing in Tokyo, Nagoya, Yokohama, Osaka, and Sapporo with Maestro Lawrence Leighton Smith, Britten's War Requiem and the Verdi Requiem with the New Jersey Symphony, Hugh Wolff, conductor, Mendelssohn's Lobgesang with the Cleveland Orchestra, several engagements with Robert Shaw including Verdi's Requiem, Beethoven's Ninth Symphony and Mendelssohn's Elijah with the Dallas Symphony and Elijah with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, Penderecki's Polish Symphony in Vancouver, Gorecki's Symphony No 3 with the San Diego Symphony and New York's Little Orchestra Society; Mahler's Symphony No 4 in Santo Domingo with Philippe Entremont and No 8 with the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra and Theo Alcantara, Beethoven's Missa Solemnis with the St Paul Chamber Orchestra, Colorado Springs Philharmonic, Symphony of Rio de Janeiro, the Long Island Symphony, Grant Park Festival; Haydn's Lord Nelson Mass with the Columbus (Ohio) Symphony and Long Island Symphony; and special appearances with Memphis, Savannah, Sioux City, Austin, Colorado Music Festival, Knoxville, Winter Park, Keystone, Ft Wayne, Oklahoma, Kansas City Symphonies.
Rebecca Copley's debut in Bilbao, Spain, was to
perform and record the title role in Jesus Guridi's Basque
opera, Amaya, sung in Basque. Amaya was released in Spain as a
private limited premiere edition recording, followed by the
international Marco Polo release in October 2000.
In 2004 the Kansas Federation of Music Clubs honored Ms. Copley
as "Musician of the Year." She also is the recipient of the Gold
Award for Achievement from her alma mater, Bethany College (KS).
Ms. Copley is in demand as a voice teacher/clinician and welcomes dedicated students to her private voice studio.
